Japanese Fun

5 Mar

Through an online site called ConversationExchange.com, the girls and I have connected with a couple Japanese ladies here in San Diego. It turns out they are both Navy wives. 🙂

We have met a few times. We have played at the park and visited to introduce ourselves (one has a 4 year old and one has a 2 year old). We have met at our house to learn some basic phrases, watch some Hiragana videos and to practice a little, and yesterday we went to a Japanese market (Mitsuwa) that is only about 15 minutes from where we live.

During our shopping trip, our basket did hold a few food items (fresh Yakisoba noodles, baby corn, rice seasonings, etc.), but it mostly held treats to try and other favorites we already had to keep on enjoying! It was great to have the ladies there to answer questions, read some labels, and to point out their favorites!

When we were done paying, we walked to the end of the shopping center to a used book store and found a few hiragana/katana workbooks and a hardbound book to learn the same. I will definitely be visiting that store again.

After our shopping, we went to a park, samples our goodies, and soaked up some San Diego sunshine. Liezel even wiggled her toes in the sand and grass for the first time. (When she wasn’t eating all the rice biscuits!)

I am very glad we have connected with these ladies and hope to get to know them better before we leave.
